Nothing much happens around our little village, but this week we were surprised to find that the main paved road to the nearest town was suddenly blocked off. We were directed to a detour that took us along gravel roads through the countryside. On my way back along this route I noticed a sea of blue that I had missed on my way out.

So today, on my way home from doing another kitchen shoot, I had to stop, thrash my way through the vines bordering the field, and make a few shots (the mosquitoes I disturbed made sure I only stayed for a few shots !).

Sit back for a few minutes, turn on the music (link below), and drift off into the wild blue yonder ...

[oh, my curiosity about the detour was piqued so I drove past the 'road closed' sign for about a mile and came upon the reason for the closure - a bridge over this creek is being replaced - the construction crew said it would take 2 months]

by the way, this flower is known as Viper's Bugloss

Bear with me ...

My apologies for not having visited most of you over the past week or two. I've been doing some commercial work - primarily kitchens (yes, some of it for filthy lucre) and it's been consuming considerable time.

I have more work lined up for (at least) the next two weeks and will be hard-pressed to come around to visit you. If time permits, I may slip in a visit here and there. Thank you to all who have dropped by to leave a comment - that is appreciated.

In the (in)famous words of the Terminator, "I'll be back".

Here are samples of two kitchens designed by my son (his creativity gene was not inherited from me):

This last shot is of my son's kitchen, which he also designed:

The Hogs Back

If you're up for a little interesting history on this name, check out this story. Otherwise just sit back as I take you on a quick pictorial tour of this place:

this is part of the lake formed by the dam which is under the bridge in the distance

a lilac-lined lane lies above the east side of the gorge

a view along the bridge seen in the top photo (that's Ottawa in the background)

a view of the rapids from the bridge - this was one of the obstacles that had to be overcome in the 1820s to make the Rideau River navigable

a closer view

a small sidestream below the gorge

a view downstream from atop the west side of the gorge

The Heavens Declare ...

1 Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.

7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

Praise the Lord.

(from Psalm 148)

I was reminded of the awesomeness and majesty of our Creator many times this past week as the heavens declared His glory in our back yard.
